Here is a one of a kind find which the seller indicates the truck has been cetified by the EPA and DOT for sale and use in the USA. The 1986 4wd was built in South Africa and imported to the US as a 1 year old “used vehicle” with 12,000 miles (the minimum required age & mileage to import) in 1987. The first registered California owner obtained EPA & DOT certification & drove it in the San Diego area until the seller purchased it in 1992.
The truck features 4 doors and a solid front axle. Although we wish it had a 2LT diesel engine, it does have a 22R gas with a 5 speed transmission. It also has 4.88 factory gear ratios with rear Detroit Tru-Trac LSD.
The $9868 asking price is pretty hefty, but even if we could import a hilux into the states, more than half that cost would be in shipping and taxes. The only set back I can see is the right hand drive. I wonder how hard it would be to convert it to left hand drive? One thing is for sure; this truck will turn heads wherever it goes!
